Gold Processing Circuit at Čoka Rakita: Crushing, Grinding, and Flotation for High Recovery

The Čoka Rakita Project, operated by Dundee Precious Metals (DPM), is a high-grade gold-copper skarn deposit located in Eastern Serbia. The pre-feasibility study outlines an advanced mineral processing plant designed to produce doré bars and gold concentrates with an average recovery of 87%. The facility targets an annual throughput of 850,000 tonnes of ore over an 8-year mine life.

  • Crushing: Primary jaw crusher reduces ROM ore (500 mm) to 80% passing 92 mm, operating at 242.6 t/h (design).
  • Grinding: Two-stage circuit with AG mill (6.71 m diameter) and Vertimill (VTM-1250-WB) achieves P₈₀ of 53 µm. Pebble crusher manages critical-size pebbles.
  • Gravity Concentration: Two parallel centrifugal concentrators recover 13-14% of gold into high-grade concentrate (3.4–6.0 kg/t Au). Secondary shaking table upgrades to 43 kg/t Au for smelting.
  • Flotation: Jameson cells (rougher, scavenger, cleaner) recover 51% of gold into bulk concentrate (63 g/t Au). Reagents include PAX, MIBC, and A3477.
  • Dewatering: Plate-and-frame filters produce flotation concentrate (9% moisture) and tailings (13% moisture). 46% of tailings are used as paste backfill.
  • Production: Peak output in Year 3: 201,093 oz Au (54,410 oz doré, 114,728 oz flotation concentrate).
  • Key Metrics: 7.3 MW power demand, 57% solids in tailings thickener, and 0.4 kg/t Vertimill media consumption.
