Executive Summary
The Platosa mine utilizes the Miguel Auza processing facility, located 220 kilometres south of the mine site, for mineral recovery. This facility has been treating silver-, lead-, and zinc-rich CRD Platosa mineralization since 2009. It operates two distinct flotation circuits: one dedicated to lead-silver recovery and another for zinc-silver recovery. The facility was originally designed for 650 tonnes per day but has been modified to handle higher-grade feed, currently operating at 325 to 350 tonnes per day.
Crushing and grinding operations begin at the mine with a 2,000 tonne-per-day primary jaw crusher reducing run-of-mine material to less than 9.5 millimetres. The material is then transported to the processing facility where a secondary cone crusher processes oversize fractions. The ground material is fed into a 650 tonne-per-day ball mill operating in a closed circuit with cyclones to achieve a grind size of 35 µm before entering the flotation circuits.
The flotation process involves specific reagent additions for both lead and zinc circuits to ensure selective recovery. Lead flotation utilizes collectors like Aero 3407 and depressants like zinc sulphate, while zinc flotation uses lime for pH control and copper sulfate as an activator. Final concentrates are thickened, filtered using disk filters, and dried on pads before transport to Manzanillo. The facility includes a metallurgical laboratory capable of testing up to 75 samples per day for comprehensive quality control.
