Executive Summary
The Taguas Heap Leach Project Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) outlines a mining and processing plan for the Cerros Taguas oxide mineral resource. The project utilizes standard open pit mining methods to extract material containing gold and silver values. The ore is amenable to heap leaching, with a design to process 5.475 million tonnes per year at an average rate of 15,000 tonnes per day. The estimated mine life for the project is 9.2 years.
Processing involves a three-stage closed crushing circuit to reduce material to 100% passing 12.5 mm. The crushed ore is stacked onto a leach pad in 10 m lifts with lime added for pH control. Leaching is conducted using a dilute sodium cyanide solution. Pregnant solution is gravity-fed to a pond and pumped to a Merrill-Crowe plant for metal recovery via zinc cementation.
Final recovery involves dewatering the precipitate, drying in a mercury retort, and smelting to produce a doré product. Power is supplied by diesel generators. The process targets average gold recovery of 83% and silver recovery of 42%. An event pond is included to manage storm and snowmelt contact solution.
