The Olimpiada Mine in Russia employs a complex processing circuit to treat refractory gold ores. The process begins with crushing and grinding, followed by flotation to concentrate sulfide minerals. The flotation concentrate is subjected to a bio-oxidation process (BIOX), in which bacteria break down the sulfide minerals, exposing the gold. This is followed by cyanide leaching to recover the gold. The bio-oxidation process enhances recovery by ensuring that more gold is accessible for leaching. Tailings are detoxified before disposal.
