Executive Summary
This technical report outlines the recovery methods and metallurgical status of the Penouta Tin project. Historical production utilized basic gravity methods on weathered and kaolinised parts of the deposit. SRK Consulting notes that no new metallurgical test work on hard rock sources has been completed since the previous 2014 MRE, and no new study was undertaken for this report.
SMS currently operates an industrial plant for the re-processing of old tailings derived from historical surface workings. Located centrally within the Section B Mining Concession, the plant has a processing capacity of 1 Mtpa and recovers Sn, Ta2O5, and Nb2O5 concentrates. Processing activities include grinding, gravity separation using spirals and shaking tables, magnetic separation, and waste management.
Future plans involve upgrading the current plant to process hard rock material as part of a Pilot facies Project. Proposed additions include a new crushing and milling facility, a hydrocyclone for kaolin separation, and flotation circuits for the recovery of industrial minerals such as quartz, feldspar, and mica.
