Executive Summary

The Asmara Project Feasibility Study outlines a comprehensive processing plant design located in Eritrea, targeting the recovery of gold, silver, copper, and zinc. The facility is designed to handle multiple ore types, including direct shipping ore (DSO), oxide/transition ore, supergene ore, and primary sulphide ore. The plant is structured in phases, with the initial phase focusing on heap leaching and DSO treatment, followed by flotation circuits for supergene and primary ores.

The heap leach circuit utilizes a three-stage crushing process to reduce ore to ≤9.5 mm, followed by agglomeration with cement and lime. Gold and silver are recovered using Carbon-in-Solution (CIS) technology, involving adsorption, acid washing, elution, and electrowinning. The flotation circuit, designed for later phases, employs a Single Stage Crushing, SAG, and Ball Mill (SAB) comminution circuit. This is followed by copper and zinc rougher, regrind, and multi-stage cleaning flotation to produce concentrates.

Metallurgical testwork conducted by Blue Coast Metallurgy and Orway Mineral Consultants formed the basis for the design. The project aims to treat up to 4,000,000 tonnes per annum of primary ore in the final phase, alongside 1,400,000 tonnes per annum of oxide/transition ore and 200,000 tonnes per annum of DSO. The design prioritizes operational flexibility to handle varying ore types while minimizing capital and operating costs.
