Executive Summary
This Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) outlines the processing plant design for the CuMo Project, a copper-molybdenum sulfide operation located in the USA. The proposed facility utilizes a sensor-based mineral sorting strategy to reject waste rock prior to grinding, significantly reducing the required size of the mill and flotation circuits. The plant is designed to treat 150,000 short tons per day of mill feed, derived from a 260,000 short tons per day mine feed, with a design availability of 92%.
The core processing circuit includes a primary gyratory crusher followed by bulk and particle sorting stages. The sorted material is then ground using a combination of SAG mills and ball mills in closed circuit with pebble crushing. Flotation is conducted using forced air tank and trough-shaped cells for both copper and molybdenum recovery, with specific circuits for rougher, cleaner, and scavenger stages to optimize concentrate grades.
Downstream processing for the molybdenum concentrate involves a ferric chloride leach circuit followed by drying and a multiple hearth gas-fired roaster to produce a saleable molybdenum oxide product. The roaster also facilitates the recovery of sulfuric acid and rhenium from flue gases. Copper concentrate is produced for transport to an external facility, while tailings are thickened and deposited in a tailings storage facility (TSF).
