Executive Summary
This technical report details the recovery methods and processing capabilities of the Greenbushes Lithium Operations, operated by Talison Lithium Limited. The facility utilizes two adjacent lithium processing plants (Technical Grade Plant and Chemical Grade Plant) located next to open pits. These plants produce a range of lithium concentrate products, including SC6.0 from the Chemical Grade Plant and SC5.0, SC6.5, SC7.0, and SC7.5 from the Technical Grade Plant. The ore is considered very high grade, containing approximately 4% Li2O and 50% spodumene, compared to typical hard rock deposits which contain 1-2% Li2O.
The processing infrastructure includes a four-stage crushing plant that feeds both lithium and tantalum ore. The crushing plant operates at a throughput of 250 tonnes per hour for lithium ore, with a total annual capacity of approximately 3.5Mtpa. The Technical Grade Plant processes ore with low iron content using wet grinding and gravity, magnetic separation, and flotation stages. The Chemical Grade Plant processes higher iron content ore, milling to 3mm and utilizing gravity separation and flotation.
In FY 2012, the operation processed approximately 785,000 tonnes of ore to produce 357,000 tonnes of lithium concentrates. The total capacity at the Greenbushes operation is 1.5Mtpa, with a concentrate product capacity of approximately 740,000tpa. The plants are currently operating at full production capacity, with planned upgrades to progressively increase production.
