Executive Summary
The South Inkai Uranium Mine process plant has been operational for several years as of the report date. The facility utilizes an In-Situ Recovery (ISR) methodology where uranium-rich solutions are pumped from wellfields into a lined pregnant solution pond. This pond acts as a buffer between wellfield operations and the processing plant, allowing for accumulation and drawdown of solutions before they are pumped to the processing facility.
Within the processing facility, the pregnant solutions undergo ion exchange using uranium-selective resin loaded into 50 m³ columns. The uranium is adsorbed onto the resin, targeting a loading of 20 kg U per m³. The stripped solution is returned to the barren solution side for pH adjustment and re-injection into the wellfield. The uranium-bearing resin is then transferred to desorption columns where ammonium nitrate solution strips the uranium back into solution.
The resulting strip solution, containing approximately 55 g U/L to 70 g U/L, is transferred to a precipitation vessel where hydrogen peroxide precipitates the uranium. The precipitate is dewatered using a belt filter and calcined before shipping as international market quality yellowcake. Process recovery of uranium delivered to the plant is forecast to average approximately 97.5%, a performance level supported by current operating experience.
