Starra 276 — 2013 Technical Report

Company Starra 276 Project
Date 2013
Region Townsville, Australia
Commodities Copper, Gold

Executive Summary

This technical report details the recovery methods employed at the Osborne concentrator for the Starra 276 project. The facility utilizes conventional industry methods to recover copper in the form of sulphide minerals, principally chalcocite and chalcopyrite, along with gold. The process flow involves comminution through crushing and grinding, followed by flotation, and concludes with the dewatering of the copper-gold concentrate via thickening and filtration.

The Osborne concentrator has been operational since February 2012, treating Starra 276 ore since February 2013. The circuit was previously operated under Barrick and has been recommissioned with the reinstatement of a cleaner flotation circuit. This upgrade enables the upgrading of concentrate produced from the scavenger 2, pyrite rougher, and pyrite scavenger stages, ensuring greater assurance of predicted flotation performance across all ore types.

Processing capabilities have been significantly upgraded over time. While the design capacity was 119 t/h, actual throughput reached approximately 265 t/h by 2008. The plant treats ore from the Osborne open pit, Osborne underground mine, and the Trekelano deposit. Gold recovery is supplemented by centrifugal gravity concentration using a Knelson concentrator, with the concentrate tabled and smelted to produce gold bullion. The final concentrate is dewatered to 9% moisture before trucking to the port at Townsville.
