Executive Summary

This chapter outlines the recovery methods for the Bear Lodge Rare Earth Element (REE) Project. While the mineral processing for the updated mineral resource estimate has not been fully defined, a demonstration project plant was established to process a bulk exploration sample from the Bull Hill deposit. This sample averaged 10.1% total rare earth oxide (TREO) and was used to support the separation and processing demonstration project.

The demonstration project plant is scheduled to commence operation in the third quarter of 2024. Its primary objective is to provide the necessary design criteria for a larger commercial-scale facility. The plant involves physical processing of the exploration sample, followed by chemical processing to produce a pure TREO(Th) concentrate, and finally the separation and production of high purity NdPr oxide.

The process consists of four main stages: Physical Upgrading (PUG) for comminution, Primary Hydrometallurgical Processing (PP) to produce a TREO(Th) concentrate, Thorium/Cerium Separation (TCS) to remove radioactivity, and Neodymium/Praseodymium Separation (NPS) to refine REE groups. The technology includes innovative separators and proprietary software for real-time monitoring and recycling of valuable product streams.
