Executive Summary

The Turquoise Ridge JV Technical Report outlines the recovery methods employed at the facility, specifically focusing on the Sage mill capacity which ranges from 11,500 to 12,000 tons per day. The grinding circuit utilizes a semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill followed by a ball mill, with a target grind size of 35 μm. To optimize plant feed rates, additional Geho pumps were installed in 2010 to address previous pump capacity limitations. The mill circuit includes cyclones where overflow reports to a thickener, and underflow proceeds to an acidification circuit.

The processing flow involves acidification with sulphuric acid to maintain free acid concentrations greater than 30 g/L for TRJV ore. The slurry is then fed into two identical autoclaves operated in parallel for pressure oxidation, utilizing two stages of flash heat recovery. Following autoclave discharge and cooling, the slurry enters a lime neutralization circuit where oxide ore and acidic oxidized sulphide ore are combined. Neutralization is achieved using carbonate oxide ore and supplemental lime before the slurry moves to the carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit.

Gold extraction occurs in the CIL circuit using cyanide solution. Loaded carbon is transferred to a pressure Zadra stripping circuit where gold is stripped using caustic and cyanide solution at elevated temperature and pressure. The resulting pregnant solution undergoes electrowinning to recover precious metals as sludge. The sludge is processed through a mercury retort, mixed with fluxes, and refined into doré bars. Barren carbon is regenerated in a kiln circuit and returned to the CIL circuit.
