Executive Summary
This technical report outlines the recovery methods and production history of the Vanscoy mine, operated by Nutrien. Since 1969, the facility has mined and concentrated potash ore to produce saleable quantities of high-grade finished potash products, including granular, standard, and special standard potash for agricultural applications.
Production data from the past three years indicates varying output volumes with average grades hovering around 61% K2O. Over the past decade, actual mill recovery rates have ranged between 76.0% and 83.2%, averaging 80.4%. Given the long-term experience with potash geology and mill recovery at Vanscoy, no fundamental potash milling problems are anticipated in the foreseeable future.
Processing Methods
Both flotation methods and crystallization methods are used to concentrate potash ore into finished potash products (near-pure KCl). Quality control testing and monitoring geared towards fine-tuning and optimizing potash milling and concentrating processes are conducted on an ongoing basis at all Nutrien mine sites and at Nutrien research facilities.
