Moa Project — 2023 Technical Report

The Moa Project, operated by Sherritt International, is a nickel and cobalt mining and processing operation located in Moa, Cuba. The project utilizes a hydrometallurgical processing route, specifically High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL), to treat limonitic laterite ore. The process involves slurry preparation, pressure acid leaching, counter-current decantation, and sulphide precipitation to produce a mixed sulphide intermediate product. This intermediate is then transported to the Cobalt Refinery Company (CRC) in Fort Saskatchewan, Canada, for further refining into commercial pure nickel and cobalt metal products.
