Executive Summary

The Contact Copper Project is designed as an open-pit, heap leach operation focused on copper recovery. The processing circuit begins with primary and secondary crushing to reduce ore to 100%-minus one inch, followed by stacking on a heap leach pad. Copper is leached using a weak sulfuric acid solution, which is then processed through a solvent extraction-electrowinning plant to produce high-purity copper cathodes on site.

The crushing and conveying circuit is sized for a capacity of 60,000 tons per day. Ore is hauled to a crushing area where it passes through a primary gyratory crusher and secondary cone crushers before being stockpiled. Mobile conveyors and a radial stacker place the ore on the pad in 10 to 20-foot lifts for leaching.

Leaching operations utilize a system of drains and collection ponds to manage intermediate leach solution, pregnant leach solution, and raffinate. The solvent extraction circuit employs mixer-settler tanks where organic solvent exchanges hydrogen ions with copper ions. The final electrowinning stage plates copper onto stainless steel cathodes, which are removed and bundled for shipping every seven to nine days.
