Executive Summary
This technical report section details the recovery methods employed at the Morococha mine operated by Pan American Silver Corp. The facility utilizes an 803,000 tonne per year capacity mill known as the Amistad mill. The process relies on froth induced selective flotation technology to produce silver, zinc, lead, and copper concentrates. The flowsheet includes two-stage crushing, ball mill grinding, selective flotation, and thickening and filtering of the concentrates.
Operational data from 2013 indicates the mill processed approximately 573,000 tonnes of ore with metallurgical recoveries averaging 87.9% for silver, 83.2% for zinc, 73.6% for lead, and 71.7% for copper. Production for the year was approximately 2.4 million ounces of silver, 15,200 tonnes of zinc, 3,800 tonnes of lead, and 2,000 tonnes of copper. The mine utilizes the Peruvian national power grid and draws water from nearby lakes for processing activities.
Tailings are disposed of at the Huascacocha tailings facility, with half of the tailings classified via hydrocyclone and the fines combined with the rest for disposal. The underflow from the hydrocyclone is used for hydraulic backfill underground.
