Executive Summary

The Platreef 2022 Feasibility Study outlines a phased development plan for the Platreef Project, located in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. The project involves the construction of a large-scale, mechanized underground mine accessed via two vertical shafts, with a processing plant designed to treat Run-of-Mine (RoM) material. The plan initiates with a concentrator plant throughput of 0.77 Mtpa in Phase 1, ramping up to a steady-state production rate of 5.2 Mtpa through the addition of modular concentrator streams in Phase 2.

Metallurgical testwork supports a conventional three-stage crushing and ball milling circuit followed by flotation and dewatering stages. A significant change from the 2017 Feasibility Study is the adoption of a dry-stack tailings facility to enhance water efficiency and safety. The project targets an average annual production of 522,379 oz of 3PE+Au, plus 23 Mlb of nickel and 14 Mlb of copper, with an after-tax NPV8% of $1.69 billion and an IRR of 18.5%.

Processing Profile

  • Crushing: Three-stage crushing circuit (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary). HPGR considered for Phase 2.
  • Milling: Single-stage ball milling circuit.
  • Flotation: Rougher, Cleaner, and Scavenger circuits. Split cleaner configuration.
  • Tailings: Dry stack deposition methodology.
