Executive Summary
This technical report details the recovery methods and processing capabilities of the Rice Lake Mining Complex as of February 2013. The mill crushing plant underwent a significant expansion in 2011, which included the addition of a primary jaw crusher, a secondary gyratory crusher, and a tertiary vertical shaft impact (VSI) crusher. This expansion allowed the feed size to the grinding mill to be reduced from 16mm to 8mm, effectively doubling the mill throughput from 1,136 tonnes per day to 2,273 tonnes per day.
The processing circuit involves grinding the ore in a ball mill to 67% passing 74 microns, followed by gravity concentration using 500mm gravity concentrators and upgrading on a shaking table. The tails are returned to the grinding circuit. The fines are then processed through OUTOTEC tank cells for flotation, producing a rougher concentrate that is reground and leached in a three-stage circuit. Gold is recovered using a six-stage carbon-in-pulp (CIP) circuit, followed by electrowinning and smelting.
The mill operates on a 14-day on, 14-day off schedule with 12-hour shifts. Current mill recovery is name-plated at 93.5% based on a feed grade of 5.5 grams per tonne, with recovery reaching as high as 96.5% at higher grades. The ore is described as clean with no deleterious constituents affecting recovery, although copper in solution can be high due to copper wire in the ore.
