Executive Summary
This NI 43-101 Technical Report presents the Pre-Feasibility Study (PEA) for the Kruidfontein Project, focusing on the conceptual design of a concentrator plant. The study assumes a single-stream plant configuration designed to treat either Merensky or UG2 ore types, but not both simultaneously. The proposed flowsheet is based on a standard MF2 (mill-float-mill-float) concentrator, which is a proven method in the platinum industry for treating PGM ores. The plant is designed to handle a throughput of 160 kilotonnes per month (ktpm) of ore.
The processing circuit includes primary and secondary crushing, followed by primary and secondary milling to achieve specific particle size distributions. Flotation is conducted using tank-type cells in rougher and cleaner circuits to recover valuable minerals. The final concentrate undergoes dewatering via a thickener and a Larox horizontal continuous plate and frame filter before being dispatched to a refinery. The project relies on external infrastructure, including a water pipeline from the Magalies water connection and electrical supply from Eskom, with noted risks regarding the sufficiency and availability of these resources.
Processing Overview
The Concept Study outlines a flowsheet that includes RoM sizing, primary and secondary milling, rougher and cleaner flotation, and concentrate dewatering. The design targets a P80 of 212 μm after primary milling and 75 μm after secondary milling. The rougher tailings are recycled to the secondary milling circuit to maximize recovery. The final concentrate is filtered and loaded onto road trucks for transport to a base metal and precious metal refinery. No novel or unproven technologies were incorporated into the PEA design.
