Executive Summary
This technical report details the recovery methods employed at the Akdala Uranium Mine operated by Uranium One Inc. The operation utilizes an In-Situ Recovery (ISR) method where uranium-rich solutions are pumped from wellfields to a processing plant. The process involves ion exchange columns using uranium-selective resin to adsorb uranium, followed by desorption using ammonium nitrate solution. The uranium is then precipitated using hydrogen peroxide and dewatered to produce a solid product containing approximately 40% U.
The plant throughput increased in 2011 from 1,378 m³/h to an average of 1,860 m³/h. Wellfield extraction targets 90% recovery, while process plant recovery is forecast at 97.5%. The final product is shipped to South Inkai for drying and then to off-site converters in Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan for upgrading to yellowcake.
RPA recommends increased analysis of physical and chemical data related to well fields and plant operations to better track performance and identify causes for variances in operating results.
