Executive Summary
This technical report section details the recovery methods for the Lac-des-Îles Graphite Mine, prepared by Soutex with Guy Comeau as the Qualified Person. A site visit was conducted in October 2021, noting that the process plant was not operating but equipment was well maintained. Since then, Northern Graphite Corporation (NGC) and GNI have confirmed no major modifications to the LDI plant.
The process begins with Run-of-mine (ROM) feed from Pit 2 and stockpiles, which are crushed in a conventional jaw crusher. The product is conveyed to a silo with a 24-hour retention time, where calcium chloride may be added to prevent freezing. Feeders then supply the grinding circuit, consisting of a semi-autogenous grinding mill and a ball mill. The ground product undergoes flotation and gravity separation to recover coarse graphite early in the process.
In 2022, the plant processed 137,448 tonnes of ore at a 6.5% Cg head grade, achieving 90.5% recovery to produce 9,460 tonnes of concentrate. Operations resumed in November 2023 at a nominal 10,000 tpa following a maintenance period. The Long Term Mine (LOM) plan is pending an updated Mineral Reserve estimate.
